WWE is Trying To Legalize Betting on High-Profile Wrestling Matches

World Wrestling Entertainment is working to legalize betting on high-profile matches held in the United States. It is reported that the entertainment company is in talks with gaming regulators in Colorado and Michigan to seek approval to begin the process.

Defend the script competition

To fuel their plans, the promoters of the high-intensity sport, which is still considered a “niche,” have also hired the services of global consulting firm Ernst & Young to ensure that the results of scripted competitions are not leaked to the public.

It has always been a challenge for WWE to keep the results of the script confidential. In the past, the company has worked with award ceremonies such as the Oscars, keeping the results confidential until the media broadcasts the competition. To avoid leaks, WWE is also said to have adopted a very strict rule of informing players of the results of matches before each match starts.

Some betting operators, such as Fanduel and DraftKings, have designed a betting package for the Oscars, but WWE wants to expand the scope to include betting on major wrestling events as well.

Sportsbooks outside the United States have started betting on WWE

Although expanding the service to the US has received eager support from most sportsbook operators, sportsbooks outside the US have been able to bet on WWE early on.

In a way, the industry has long been open to betting on professional wrestling matches in the United States, with All Elite Wrestling, a tournament and events company that has signed a partnership with DraftKings to allow fans in the United States to bet on major wrestling matches and events. However, this program works a little differently, players are not allowed to place bets, but participate in a “trivia” type game that offers cash prizes to the winner if they can successfully predict the outcome.

If legalization is not successful, WWE also has a backup plan to allow players to bet on some fictional storylines related to each match.

Sports Betting in the United States

Sports betting is still illegal in some states, such as California, Florida, and Texas. It remains to be seen how these states react to allowing betting on scripted matches.
