Content Team

Mathias Johansen, founder of GLHF Affiliates, has joined the latest installment of the Affiliate Grand Slam in a series of interviews

Mathias Johansen and the rest of the GLHF Affiliates team focus on the form of a good content and a high-quality websiteto bring transparency to players – here’s his story.

How did GLHF Affiliates get started? Tell us about your business model, concept, and culture.

The beginning of GLHF Affiliates is interesting in itself. One of my closest friends and I used to do content, SEO, and affiliate work for operators. We see that there is definitely room for improvement in the proxy market in terms of transparency and quality. At the same time, we are also seeing many areas that have not yet been covered by other opponents, such as cryptocurrency gambling. So, we set out to build a website, which is known today as case.bet; It took a little bit of learning time, but we eventually got started. Finding a workable program and providing a high-quality service to players, the site took off.

With the success of one website, we believe that the same concept can be applied to other areas such as multilingual websites for 氚旍勾霛約 and sports, which we are currently trying.

Our focus is on providing transparency to players in the form of good content and a high-quality website, and we are sure that is the key.

What makes you different from other affiliates? What makes your traffic and website unique?

One thing that sets us a little apart from other agencies in the market is that we take on a big challenge. While many keywords and domains have been occupied by websites that have been in operation for a long time, people are reluctant to take the risk of building something that is likely to be unsuccessful because it can take months.

Even though we are still a small team, we have embraced these challenges. We don’t particularly focus on what is the easiest way to get leads, but rather on the areas where we can provide quality.

What is the most important key to success? Do you prioritize having a lot of resources or having good skills?

Success comes from people. Either way, you need to have the right people, the right skills and the right passion. I am well aware that GLHF Affiliates will not grow without the participation of these people, and I must let them know that as well.

What motivates you to promote more, and what helps you boost your motivation?

Self-learning and freedom are definitely my biggest motivation these days. We’re always doing different things, from WordPress development, HTML/CSS, content writing, SEO, and so on, and I can learn from trial and error doing these things. My team and I have the freedom to do what we want, and that freedom motivates me because I can work on projects that I am passionate about.

Which global markets do you prioritize and why? Do you see potential in emerging markets?

We see regulated markets as a possible priority in the future, as these markets take extra steps to keep players safe, and at the same time, from a player’s perspective, they need to have a place to read more about licensed 氚旍勾霛約. However, there are challenges, such as having to know a particular language and market rules, which can be a bit difficult to figure out if you’re not from that country.

On top of that, we see the rise of the Asian market. It’s a different challenge for us right now, and it’s going to take a lot of effort to get in, but generally speaking, we’re getting quite a bit of Asian traffic from English sites alone. This may be included in our list of future projects.

Why is SEO important for gambling and how long does it take for SEO to see results? What SEO factors are out of your control?

SEO is pretty much everything, and we’re sure to see more companies put effort into improving overall. Search engines are changing algorithms and cracking down on black hat tactics all the time, so it’s more important to keep up with current SEO guidelines and changes and adopt white hat SEO.

Generally speaking, after 3-5 months, we can see the results of our SEO efforts, and that’s when we can see what can be improved and changed to make it better.

Do you produce all the marketing materials that need to be promoted in-house, or do you outsource?

All of our assignments are done in-house, except for some translations. It will take a little bit of time because we are a team of 3 people, but each is good at different areas and has a fairly good way of managing all the different tasks, so at least so far we haven’t seen anything that needs to be outsourced.

How important is social media activity to your affiliate business?

Social media campaigns are great in a lot of ways, we’re not good at it, but it’s starting to be used more often. Social media creates awesome traffic in an organic way and can contribute to search engine optimization to a considerable extent.

In addition to Google, do you also pay attention to the rankings of other search engines, such as Baidu in China?

We don’t particularly focus on other search engines, but we’ve found ways to improve your site’s ranking on most search engines, and we’ve started implementing it in our strategy, and it’s worked well so far. I think we need more data to illustrate what the benefits of the new approach might be before we can really start putting more effort into it.

How does technology play a role in your day-to-day work?

We use technology every day to help not only our own business, but also our daily lives. We also use different platforms, and the innovation of others makes the work easier. We don’t use Slack as much, but it’s been a major source of communication between our teams during the pandemic.

How has the fragmentation of the regulated market impacted your business?

As an affiliate, we have basically understood the need to inform players about the regulations and the possible impact on them, and we have also removed operators who do not hold a license in some countries. It affects us a lot because we need to be constantly changing, but in the long run, it’s good for us.

How is the Asian market developing for affiliates?

These days, we have seen a crazy increase in demand for Asian traffic, and we continue to receive requests for Asian traffic. It’s a great market with high player value and high traffic, but despite this, Asia is challenging for agencies because of the need to use different search engines and SEO algorithms, and in many cases, it’s a market that agencies haven’t really touched before, and it’s new to try. It will take us a while to see trends and results, but we are seeing a lot of affiliates put more effort into the Asian market.

How can affiliates be more unique in their approach?

I think more affiliates should be willing to take more risks and try new things. Don’t be afraid to enter the market and learn as you go. This is one of the ways to understand what works.

What can operators do to strengthen support for affiliates? Did the communication and support from the operator meet your expectations? How do you manage your relationship with them?

The operators do a very good job of supporting the agents because this is one of the main ways they get players. Some operators are better at communicating, but overall, we don’t have anything to complain about so far. If something goes wrong, we just raise it with the affiliate manager and it’s usually resolved directly.

The only thing that needs to be pointed out is that some operators aren’t really ready to provide relevant information about the 氚旍勾霛 itself and their possible updates to bonuses and new features. If an operator adds a new game provider, we’ll be curious to know because we can mention it in the article, or add that provider to the review.

Have you ever attended the SiGMA Summit? SiGMA Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas – which of these four would you be willing to book on your 2021 calendar, should the pandemic allow?

I’ve been to almost every SiGMA event in Malta over the past few years and I’m probably going to continue to attend and maybe travel to Asia in the future as it’s one of the few opportunities for affiliates to meet and connect with other industry parties, and it’s great to see in person people who used to only communicate via email.

Tell us a little bit about yourself – after all, business is about people, not just companies! Your hobbies, favorite books, favorite quotes, whether you also like gambling, etc.

At this stage, esports and gaming are basically my life. I play in different leagues, compete with CS:GO teams, and even sponsor some teams myself. I often play games with some of our partners and it’s a lot of fun.
