The 2023 season of Formula 1 kicked off today with the Bahrain Grand Prix. This season will feature three street races, making it the longest season in history.

This year was the most scheduled, with a record 23 races C one more than last year’s 22, and the season lasted eight months and took place in multiple locations around the world. The popularity of the Grand Prix held in the United States has not diminished, but has increased, with Miami, Austin and the newly added Las Vegas Grand Prix taking place on May 7, October 22 and November 18 respectively.

As for the Middle East, the Grand Prix in Qatar in October will be the country’s first major sporting event after last year’s World Cup. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the United Arab Emirates is scheduled to take place on November 26.

Team lineup

With Sebastian Vettel retiring at the end of last season, the driver line-ups of the teams have also been in turmoil: Fernando Alonso has left the Alpine F1 Team to join Lance StrollAston Martin; Pierre Gasly moved from AlphaTauri to Alpine; And world Formula E champion Nick de Vries fills Alfatoli’s vacancy.

Daniel Ricciardo has left Red Bull and McLaren to be replaced by Oscar Piastri, who is still mired in a contract dispute. Haas F1 has replaced the vacancy left by Mick Schumacher with Nico Hulkenberg.

Logan Sargeant is the first American driver since 2015, replacing Williams Racing’s Nicholas Latifi.

Lance Stoll is expected to race in Bahrain today after missing pre-race testing due to a bicycle accident.

Top teams from last season

Red Bull Racing dominated the entire race last season. The top three teams in 2022 are Red Bull Racing with Max Verstappen and Sergio Prez, Ferrari with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr., and Lewis Hamilton) and George Russell’s Mercedes. The line-up of the three teams is expected to be unchanged this year.

Last season, Verstappen successfully defended his title as “world champion”, while Hamilton finished sixth. The seven-time champion experienced a titleless season for the first time in his career and finished just sixth behind Verstappen, Leclerc, Perez, Russell and Sainz.

Mercedes faced a number of problems last season, which team manager Toto Wolff said was the reason why the team struggled to shine. He explained that this season the team is taking a more cautious approach in hopes of “reclaiming the glory of winning the championship for eight consecutive seasons before last year.”

We are changing the structure and overall layout of the car and should point us in the right direction. But like these new rules, sometimes you find one problem and another pops up. And because of this, we have to be humble, not take it for granted, think that we will return to the ranks of champions and win from the start. – Toto Wolff, Mercedes-AMG Pelonas F1 Team
