Sant has had a long and distinguished career with MGA, joining his legal internship in September 2014 before rising to the position. He became a Senior Legal Advisor before rising to the position of Senior Head of Policy and International Affairs until finally becoming General Counsel in February this year.
During her more than seven years tenure for the agency, Yanica has supported regulators’ efforts to eliminate black market gambling and ensure a safer environment for players.
The departure was friendly to gaming authorities who stated, “MGA would like to thank Yanica for her hard work over the past seven and a half years.” They continue to demonstrate her service to the industry, citing “her invaluable contributions at all levels of the authority hierarchy and to most high-level projects during that time, including the drafting of the regulatory framework published in 2018.”
In conclusion, MGA said, “We wish her the best of luck with this new endeavor. I am confident that she will proudly demonstrate the values that MGA is proud of.”
This also comes at a time of increasing regulatory pressure, including the crackdown on non-compliant operators, as well as a series of reforms to the general regulatory framework of the authorities. An example of this is an entity that adds a supplier to an existing rule in reporting suspicious bets.
During this year’s edition of SiGMA, Yanica Sant discussed the future of gaming regulation in Malta in a panel titled ‘Malta 2022 and Beyond’, as well as in a separate panel where Dr. Sant discussed the challenges of protecting data within the online gambling sector.
