Wakayama Governor Shuhei Kishimoto has reaffirmed the prefecture’s willingness to consider hosting an integrated resort (IR) with a 바카라 if Japan’s national government announces a new application round. Wakayama borders Osaka prefecture to the north and Mie and Nara prefectures to Japan’s northeast.
GGR Asia reported that while no official timeline has been provided, the Wakayama government is actively gathering information. In November, the Japan Tourism Agency sent a questionnaire to Wakayama asking if the prefecture would be interested in participating in a future IR application process. Kishimoto confirmed that the prefecture had responded positively, stating it would consider reapplying if another opportunity arises.
Wakayama initially pursued an IR development but withdrew from the process in 2022 after the local assembly rejected the proposal. The decision prompted the closure of the prefecture’s IR planning office in June of that year. Kishimoto, who took office in December 2022, has maintained an open stance on revisiting the idea if conditions change.
Despite acknowledging the economic benefits a 바카라 resort could bring, Kishimoto has emphasised the need to weigh potential social concerns, such as gambling addiction and public safety.
Nagasaki, another prefecture that previously sought an IR licence but was unsuccessful, also received a questionnaire from national authorities about renewed interest in the sector. Last month, Tomakomai Mayor Suguru Kanazawa reaffirmed the city’s commitment to developing an integrated resort (IR) with a 바카라. Speaking at the Tomakomai City Council’s regular session, Kanazawa confirmed that authorities would continue preparations to achieve this goal. Tomakomai, a major industrial port city in Hokkaido Prefecture, sees the IR as a means to boost tourism, attract investment, and create jobs. Kanazawa stated the city is restructuring its IR promotion strategies and working with the central government and Hokkaido Prefecture to draw private investors, particularly around New Chitose Airport. Discussions with regional authorities will refine these efforts.
Meanwhile, Osaka’s MGM-backed IR project remains Japan’s sole approved development from the first application round and is expected to open in 2030 on Yumeshima Island in Osaka Bay.
Kishimoto’s remarks suggest Wakayama’s interest hinges on the national government’s next move. While no firm details have been provided, Wakayama continues assessing the potential benefits and risks of developing an IR. If a new application window emerges, the prefecture remains poised to restart its planning efforts.
