After a few days after being subject to scam allegations, the South African National Lottery offices were raided by The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) due to corruption and rampant fraud accusations.
The SIU came armed with warrants from a magistrate which gave them permission to confiscate documents, laptop and any other necessary files.
The spokesperson for the SIU, Kaizer Kganyago (pictured), said;
“We are here. We were granted a search warrant on [Monday] to come and get documents from the commission and all other areas where we can find the documents.”
Kganyago said that the SIU were asked to commence an investigation on the National Lottery due to the amount of allegations put forward in regards to the NLC. The investigation will look into all the transactions from Jan 1 2014 ‘until the date of proclamation.’

The raid by the SIU comes after the President, Cyril Ramaphosa, authorised the investigation into the NLC. The President sanctioned an investigation due to reports by the minister of Trade & Industry that identified a number of suspicious transactions totaling hundreds of millions of rand.
