Once again, a team of dedicated individuals from the SiGMA Foundation expedition has departed from Malta, setting off on a new adventure, this time in the Americas. This journey marks a series of impactful initiatives touching on sustainable development, healthcare, and youth empowerment in local communities.
The first stop is Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, where the team will meet Fr. Anton Grech, a Gozitan priest who has dedicated his life to serving communities in this history-rich Mayan region. His mission focuses on education, social aid, and sustainable waste management, with various recycling projects designed to relieve the environmental crisis caused by excessive waste. In addition, the SiGMA Foundation has financed the establishment of an ophthalmology operating theatre, providing much-needed eye surgeries to locals who would otherwise struggle to access such medical care.

Next, in S?o Paulo, Brazil, the inauguration of the MMA Sports Centre commences, a facility that will serve as a safe space for youth from neighbouring areas to engage in martial arts training and personal development coaching.
The ceremony will be attended by local officials, including Rogerio Lins, Secretary of Sports for S?o Paulo, as well as many young athletes and aspiring athletes from the community who will benefit from this programme.
The final leg of the journey will take the team to Iquitos, Peru, where they will reunite with Fr. Raymond Portelli, who has been instrumental in developing healthcare infrastructure in this Amazonian region. The expansion of the Algo Bello Para Dios Hospital, will officially be inaugurated this week. This initiative, generously sponsored by EGT Digital, aims to improve medical care in various sectors to the people living in these remote areas.

Keith Marshall, Chief Philanthropy Officer of the SiGMA Foundation, reflected on the value of this mission, stating:
“This triumvirate of projects is our latest battle cry, a fresh statement of intent. We face this journey with enthusiasm and maybe also a dose of trepidation.”
Beyond these inaugurations, the team will take on the legendary Inca Trail, a four-day trek through the Peruvian Andes leading to Machu Picchu. This physically demanding yet awe-inspiring journey serves as a fundraising platform, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting healthcare efforts in Peru. For months, the team has been preparing, both physically and through fundraising, to ensure this journey makes a real difference for the communities they stand behind.
The SiGMA Foundations expedition is a reflection of their ongoing commitment to philanthropy, sustainability, and community empowerment. With each step of the journey, they aim to raise awareness and funds, ensuring that these life-changing projects continue to thrive long after their visit.
Stay tuned for updates, stories, and images from the expedition as the team continues their mission across the Americas!
