Pennsylvania gambling revenue up about 11% in January

Pennsylvania’s gaming landscape continued its upward trajectory in January, with total revenue reaching approximately $529.1 million for the month, according to data from the state’s Gaming Control Board. The board announced that gambling revenue climbed 10.9 percent in January. The revenue is up from previous year’s $477.2 million, but it fell 0.8 percent short of December’s $533.1 million.

Of the total gambling revenue, online gambling has been the highlight with revenue climbing 40.5 percent year-on-year to $210.2 million in January. However, it did not surpass the record high of $223.6 million reached in December 2024, the reveals.

Online slots continue to dominate the online gambling space, drawing the most significant share of revenue. In January, generating $158.6 million, marking a 44.2 percent increase compared to the same time last year. Internet table games also saw revenue surge 32.7 percent to $48.9million for the month. Online poker revenue, on the other hand, dipped 2.3 percent to $2.6 million.

Among the key players in the online gambling scene, Hollywood Casino at Penn National emerged as the clear leader. In January, Hollywood Casino generated $79.7 million in revenue, representing a 57.9 percent increase from the previous year. Following behind was Valley Forge Casino with $57.6 million, a 38.5 percent increase from last year. Rivers Casino Philadelphia came in the third place with $35.4 million in revenue. This marked a 19.8 percent boost in revenue from the corresponding year.

Sports betting market decline

Turning to the sports betting market, Pennsylvania saw a 26.4 percent decrease in year-on-year revenue, registering $51.5 million. The decline in sports betting revenue is reflective of a broader industry trend, where several states reported declines in January due to customer-friendly sports outcomes.

Despite the overall decline, online sports betting continues to perform well, reaching $49.2 million in January. However, retail sports betting accounted for $2.3 million of the total.

Operators FanDuel and its partner, Valley Forge Casino Resort, continue to lead the sports betting sector with $28.8 million in taxable revenue from a $342.3 million handle. Following them were DraftKings and Hollywood Casino at the Meadows with $15.0 million in revenue.

Shifting focus to the land-based sector, Pennsylvania’s 바카라s also saw positive growth in January. Slot machine revenue climbed 4.6 percent to $187.8 million, while table games saw a modest 1.5 percent increase, bringing in $73.7 million. Additionally, video gaming terminals’ revenue was up 4.5 percent, totaling $3.2 million.
