GPS tracking and live odds: a new standard

The Palermo Racecourse, the centre of Buenos Aires horse racing since 1876, is taking a significant step towards modernising the nation’s horse racing industry. The iconic institution, a trailblazer in South America and Argentina, has revolutionised the betting and spectator experience by incorporating live odds and GPS tracking technology during races.

The integrated its GPS tracking technology, live odds, and cutting-edge graphics into its races through a partnership with Total Performance Data. Total Performance Data (TPD) integrates precise real-time horse positioning with continuous live odds updates and race visualisations. The racecourse has new economic and digital options thanks to this system, which also changes the experience for users and fans. The integration of this data enables sports betting operators to provide more transparent and dynamic markets. This allows consumers to make informed choices during every race.

Palermo, a pioneer in Argentina and a regional benchmark

The Palermo Racetrack thus becomes the first Argentine venue to adopt this cutting-edge technology, joining a select list of international racetracks such as Churchill Downs (United States), and Meydan (United Arab Emirates). Federico Spangenberg, Palermo’s racing manager, highlighted:

‘We are very excited and proud to incorporate TPD into our broadcast and to be the first racecourse in Argentina to implement this state-of-the-art technology.’ TPD brings transparency and competitiveness to Palermo races, enhancing the experience for both fans and industry professionals.”

Impact on sports betting and the industry

TPD’s debut in Palermo is a response to the increasing need for data solutions in South America that promote integrity and participation in sports betting.  “Being live at Palermo, one of the most iconic racecourses in Latin America, reflects the growing interest in high-quality data that enhances modern engagement with racing,” said Adam Moore, Director of Racing Partnerships at TPD, highlighting the significance of this breakthrough. While bettors benefit from a more engaging and dependable experience, betting operators benefit from increased transparency and the capacity to develop creative markets due to the availability of real-time data and live odds.

Data driving the future of betting

With operations at more than 100 racetracks across 12 nations, Total Performance Data provides journalists, industry professionals, and bookmakers with performance information and real-time tracking. In addition to improving broadcasting and betting standards in Argentina, its collaboration with Palermo solidifies South America’s position as a growing region in the global sports betting market. ‘We are thrilled to partner with the renowned Palermo racetrack and see it join our global network of more than 150 smart racecourses,’ said TPD CEO Will Duff Gordon.

This integration solidifies Palermo as a regional standard. It paves the way for further technical advancements on the continent, ushering in a new era of innovation, transparency, and competition in sports betting on Argentine turf.
