The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has launched the PAGCOR Guarantee, an online platform that allows users to check the legitimacy of internet-based gaming sites. The regulatory body said the move is part of PAGCORs campaign to clamp down on illegal online gambling.??
This new website will help our players easily identify and verify whether the online gaming sites are duly licensed before playing or making any payments, Alejandro Tengco, PAGCOR Chairman and CEO said in a statement.
The website includes a regularly updated list of licensed operators. It also allows users to access the legal gaming platforms under PAGCORs jurisdiction directly.
Tengco explained that the agency’s initiative is a response to the growing number of scams and complaints involving unauthorised operators. By providing the public with a quick and accessible way to check a sites legitimacy, we are empowering them to make informed decisions and avoid falling victim to fraudsters and scammers, he said.
The regulator stated that it has been receiving complaints from players who claim that unlicensed sites have failed to pay them their winnings. Tengco said that verifying the legitimacy of these platforms is essential before engaging in any online gaming activity.
Illegal sites, Tengco warned, not only put users at risk but also undermine the integrity of the industry and deprive the government of revenue.
Illegal online gaming sites not only endanger players but also erode public trust and deprive the government of vital revenues, he said. The PAGCOR Guarantee is a key component of our regulatory framework to protect both the industry and the Filipino people.
Aside from fighting against illegal online gaming websites, PAGCOR earlier announced efforts to promote responsible gaming. Tengco has previously called for industry-wide cooperation to address risks linked to gambling addiction and unregulated operators.
recently froze new electronic gaming licence applications and began reviewing existing permit holders following reports of questionable business practices. PAGCOR also plans to expand partnerships with rehabilitation centres to provide treatment and counselling for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. The agency is also boosting public awareness campaigns and increasing funding for research and intervention programmes.??
Gaming has inherent social risks, the PAGCOR Chairman earlier noted, but with the right safeguards and cooperation, we can protect the well-being of our players.?Tengco reiterated that the goal is to?build a safe, fair, and sustainable gaming environment for all Filipinos.?
