Coming to the industry’s gambling landscape, despite entering what is usually a quieter season,?recent reports reveal that Macaus gross gaming revenue (GGR) for June is performing well beyond expectations, defying historical trends. According to industry reports cited by?Macao Daily, Macaus gaming industry has recorded MOP 10 billion ($1.23 billion) in GGR in the first 15 days of June. For the month of May, Macaus Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ)?reported?a 5 percent year-on-year rise in total GGR, the highest since the Covid-19 pandemic. For the month, GGR totaled MOP21.19 billion, a notable 12.4 percent increase over the MOP18.86 billion?registered in April.

In February, Macau marked a first yearly drop in visitor arrivals since the COVID-19 reopening in January 2023. According to the DSEC, February registered about 3.15 million, which marked a drop of 4.4 percent compared to the same period last year. One of the primary reasons for this decline was the unusually high baseline set in February 2024. During that period, Macau benefited from an extended eight-day Chinese New Year holiday, which saw an influx of travelers, particularly from mainland China.
