Consumer demand for Macau 바카라 gambling has reportedly remained “healthy” in early June, according to a note by JP Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific) Ltd. Analysts said the gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the first eight days is estimated to be MOP5.2 billion ($643.3 million) or MOP650 million a day.
Analysts DS Kim and Selina Li wrote, “Albeit lower than May – MOP684 million a day –this is a very healthy level for shoulder months such as June, seemingly helped by G-Dragon concert as well as the Dragon Boat festival.” South Korean-pop superstar G-Dragon held concerts at The Galaxy Arena on 7 and 8 June, drawing massive crowds to Galaxy Macau, run by Galaxy Entertainment Group.
Another boost came from the Dragon Boat Festival (31 May to 2 June), a three-day public holiday on the mainland. Macau welcomed a whopping 390,422 visitors during the holiday, marking a 13.9 percent increase from the same period last year.
The analysts noted “Even assuming further moderation in the rest of the month – MOP600 million to MOP620 million a day –, June can see a rise of 4 percent to 7 percent year-on-year, in turn driving second-quarter GGR to grow 3 percent to 4 percent year-on-year and 1 percent to 2 percent quarter-on-quarter, versus the typical seasonality of minus 2 percent to 4 percent quarter-on-quarter.”
Additionally, the analysts have said that Macau’s second-quarter GGR for 2025 “is (very) likely to be the first ‘non-miss’ quarter in quite some time … following year-long” cuts to estimates made by the investment community. Adding, “Not only have [market] expectations been reset lower, but underlying demand is also printing above-seasonal and (much) better-than-feared momentum in second quarter-to-date.”
In May, Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) recorded the highest monthly GGR since the Covid-19 pandemic. For the month, GGR totaled MOP21.19 billion, a 5 percent year-on-year rise and a 12.4 percent increase over the MOP18.86 billion registered in April. Cumulatively, GGR for the five months of this year totaled MOP97.7 billion, compared to the MOP96.05 billion generated in the same period last year.
Earlier this month, Macau government trimmed its GGR forecast by 5 percent for 2025 to MOP228 billion, citing mounting economic uncertainty and shifting tourist behaviour. Originally, the GGR for the year was forecast to be about MOP240 billion. According to Ho In Mui, deputy director of the Financial Services Bureau, the revision was driven by a mix of global uncertainty, cautious consumer behaviour, and current-year performance. CreditSights also warned that the city remains on a difficult path to achieving its ambitious full-year revenue target.
