Kangwon Land, the only 바카라 in South Korea accessible to local residents, has just received green light from the government to increase its mass gaming table betting limits. In a move that signals a major shift in its gaming strategy, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially approved changes aimed at ramping up revenue and diversify table offerings.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism formally accepted Kangwon Land’s proposal to on 20 May 2025. The revision includes a significant increase in maximum bets for two Blackjack and two Texas Hold’em Poker tables—from KRW100,000 (roughly $71.9) to KRW300,000 (around $215.7). The changes take effect on 21 May, while the revised poker limits are scheduled for implementation in early June.

Increase in VIP baccarat betting limits

Just a week prior, Kangwon Land secured similar regulatory approval to raise betting limits on its VIP baccarat tables. The minimum wager for these tables has been increased from KRW50,000 to KRW500,000 ($35 to $358), a tenfold rise. Additionally, the allowable difference between ‘banker’ and ‘player’ bets, known as the table differential, has been raised from KRW2 million to KRW30 million. The decision follows an approved revision of the 바카라’s membership floor operating regulations by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. This comes as the property looks to optimise its gaming floor mix, diversify table offerings to better cater to higher-stakes customers.

The move is seen as a targeted effort to strengthen Kangwon Land’s high-end gaming segment as the company looks to offset broader financial challenges seen in recent quarters. It comes at a time when Kangwon Land is experiencing mixed financial results. For the first quarter of 2025, the operator posted KRW316.8 billion in gaming sales, a marginal 0.2 percent decline year-on-year. Revenue from mass table games fell by 0.5 percent to KRW160.4 billion, while slot machine sales dropped 2 percent.

2024 figures

Last year, Kangwon Land reported a net income of KRW455.38 billion, a 33.6 percent jump from 2023. This growth was attributed to a boost in non-operating income during the year. The company saw a modest sales growth of 2.8 percent, reaching KRW1.43 trillion, up from KRW1.39 trillion the year before. Kangwon reported a flat year-on-year performance in operating income, remaining unchanged at KRW283.28 billion.

In February, the operator begun a pilot operation of a “Casino Zone for Foreigners Only,” a move that aims to provide foreign tourists with enhanced access to the resort’s gaming facilities. According to a report, the announcement came after the company received permission in September 2024 to revise its 바카라 business restrictions. The new foreigner-only gaming zone will initially feature a raised betting limit, increasing from KRW100,000 to KRW20 million. This change is designed to make the 바카라 more appealing and accessible to international visitors.
