Slovakia’s gambling industry experienced significant growth in 2024, with online gambling emerging as the dominant sector. According to the , Urad pre Reguláciu Hazardných Hier (URHH), total player spending reached $26.3 billion(€24.2 billion), marking an 11 percent increase from the previous year.

However, while online platforms saw record-breaking revenues, land-based 바카라s registered marginal declines amid ongoing regulatory changes.

Online gambling witnessed the most substantial growth, with revenues surging by 30 percent to nearly $517 million (€476 million). URHH Director General Martin Bohoš attributed this rise to advancements in digital services, changing consumer habits, and strengthened regulatory oversight. He noted that “technological innovation and effective state regulation” have played a crucial role in shaping the sector.

Despite the digital boom, traditional gambling establishments, including 바카라s and gaming halls, remain a major part of the industry. In 2024, Slovak players gambled $522 million (€481 million) in land-based venues, only slightly higher than online gambling losses.

Major contributions, stronger economy

The economic contribution of the gambling sector also increased, with state tax revenues from gambling rising by 15 percent to $377 million (€347.3 million). Online 바카라s were the largest contributors, paying $137 million (€126.1 million) in taxes, an increase of 35 percent from the previous year. While revenues from gambling halls saw a slight decline, other segments, such as numerical lotteries, continued to grow.

However, URHH anticipates a decline in revenue from physical locations in 2025, largely due to stricter local government regulations. Officials warn that these restrictions could push players towards the unlicensed gambling market, requiring further regulatory measures.

In recent years, Bratislava’s land-based 바카라s have encountered significant challenges due to stringent regulatory measures. In December 2020, the Bratislava city council voted to prohibit 바카라s and other forms of gambling within the city, responding to a petition signed by over 70,000 residents.

This ban, effective from January 2021, allowed existing licensed operators to continue until their licence expired, primarily between 2023 and 2024.

Land-based 바카라s in limbo

By the end of 2019, Bratislava hosted 89 gambling venues, six 바카라s, and two bingo halls, generating approximately $3.38 million (€2.76 million) in revenue that year. However, with the enforcement of the gambling ban, no new licences were issued, and existing ones were not renewed, leading to a gradual decline in the number of operational 바카라s.

Regulators also remain focused on tackling illegal gambling. In 2024, URHH blacklisted an additional 89 unauthorised gambling websites, bringing the total number of banned platforms to more than 820. Authorities stress that protecting players and maintaining a well-regulated market remains a top priority.

As Slovakia moves towards an increasingly digital gambling landscape, industry experts predict continued online growth in the coming years. However, balancing expansion with responsible gaming policies and regulatory oversight will be key to sustaining a stable and transparent market for the country.
