Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming (Left on the featured image) has denied allegations that he lost 1.03 billion yuan ($143 million) during a week-long gambling spree at Macao’s Wynn Palace 바카라. The speculation, which first implicated Mandopop superstar Jay Chou (Right on the featured image), shifted to Huang after widespread social media discussions and reports from Chinese entertainment news outlets.

Huang Xiaoming’s response to gambling allegations

On 12 March 2025, Huang through a lighthearted social media post. Sharing a series of sunset photos, he captioned the post, “Wow, the sunset is so beautiful!” When a fan commented, “Did you really lose 1 billion?” Huang jokingly replied, “You mean fun tokens?”

Huang clarified that he had been in Fujian filming a project during the alleged gambling spree, making it impossible for him to be in Macao at the time.

How the rumour started

The controversy began on 10 March 2025, when reports from Chinese media claimed that a “super A-list male star” had gambled away his liquid assets, mortgaged three luxury properties, and even used a private jet to cover his mounting debts. The speculation was further fuelled by an alleged report from Global Financial Watch, which pointed to unusual cross-border financial activity linked to Macao’s 바카라s.

Jay Chou’s name dragged in first for gambling

Initially, social media users speculated that the unnamed celebrity was Jay Chou. The Mandopop icon swiftly responded through his record label, JVR Music, which issued a formal statement dismissing the claims as baseless.

Additionally, Chou’s recent social media posts from Australia, where he is reportedly working on a new album, provided further evidence that he was not involved in any such incident.

Focus shifts to Huang Xiaoming

After Jay Chou had cleared his name, speculation turned toward Huang Xiaoming, one of China’s most recognisable actors. However, Huang’s quick and humorous response, coupled with his confirmed work commitments in Fujian, has largely quelled the controversy.

With the rumour now largely debunked, this episode serves as a reminder of how celebrity gossip can spread rapidly online and the importance of verifiable facts in public discourse.
