The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has officially announced the return of its flagship awareness initiative, European Safer Gambling Week, which will run this year from 17 to 23 November 2025. Now in its fifth edition, the event aims to “promote safer gambling across Europe” and build on the “exceptional momentum” of previous years.
In a press release issued yesterday, EGBA described the week-long campaign as “an annual collaborative initiative to raise awareness about safer gambling in Europe and foster a strong culture of player protection.” The initiative will involve operators, regulators, support organisations, and “experts-by-experience.”
Reflecting on last year’s success, EGBA reported that European Safer Gambling Week 2024 brought together a record 195 partners from 26 countries, reaching 3.1 million people via social media. A total of 20 events were held, attracting 3,000 attendees. “Europe’s leading platform for safer gambling awareness,” stated Secretary General Maarten Haijer.
“This is a shared commitment,” said Haijer. “We invite organisations across the industry to join us for this year’s edition and help us foster a strong culture of safe and sustainable gambling in Europe.”
This year’s campaign will once again be supported by a “social media campaign and an array of insightful workshops,” designed to share best practices, highlight support services, and generate discussion around emerging regulatory and research developments.
The announcement comes at a time when data from previous initiatives in the UK and Ireland have demonstrated measurable impact. The UK’s Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), that participates in the Safer Gambling Week, recently revealed that over 1.5 million players engaged with safer gambling tools during the 2024 edition—a 22% year-on-year increase.
“Safer Gambling Week has proved its worth once again by making a real impact,” said BGC CEO Grainne Hurst. “These new figures are a testament to the campaign’s ongoing success and the industry’s commitment to raising standards.”
Last year, more than 7.2 million safer gambling messages were distributed across gaming platforms, generating 60 million impressions on social media, according to the BGC.
