DigiPlus Interactive Corp., a Philippine-based digital entertainment company, through its social development arm, BingoPlus Foundation, has reinforced its commitment to responsible gaming during Problem Gambling and Gaming Awareness Month with a series of initiatives aimed at prevention, education, and intervention.

At the 2nd International Conference on Responsible Gambling and Gaming Addiction held earlier this week in Quezon City, Metro Manila, industry leaders, public sector representatives, and civil society groups came together to share efforts and reaffirm cooperation. The event was hosted at the M.I.C. Center and attended by key figures, including Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“Problem gambling is real – but so is the power of technology, education, and community to prevent it,” Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of BingoPlus Foundation, said.

Prevention through technology

According to DigiPlus, the core of the company’s responsible gaming strategy is its GameSmart programme, structured around three pillars: prevention, education, and intervention. DigiPlus said prevention is anchored on digital tools that allow users to set playtime and spending limits and leverage features such as facial recognition and e-KYC to protect vulnerable groups, particularly minors.

These tools are integrated into the platform’s Responsible Gaming tab, which enables players to restrict gaming sessions to specific times of day and impose daily loss limits. “We believe gaming should remain safe and enjoyable, and by providing players with tools to manage their gaming habits, we are setting a new standard for responsible gaming in the region,” Eusebio Tanco, DigiPlus Chairman, said.

Education on the ground and online

BingoPlus Foundation’s educational outreach extends from digital platforms to barangay halls. The “Tamang Laro, Tamang Panalo” campaign provides financial coaching tailored for jackpot winners and local communities. A recent session under this initiative took place in Barangay 686, Paco, Manila, on 6 May. Topics included budgeting, debt management, and savings.

“This isn’t just about playing smart – it’s about making informed financial choices that safeguard families and futures,” Camins-Wieneke said.

Intervention with empathy

To support players who may be at risk, DigiPlus has begun training its customer service and front-line staff to identify warning signs and provide appropriate support. From 21 to 23 April, the foundation hosted its first “Basic Training on Problem Gambling for First Responders” in partnership with Seagulls Flock Organization. The training included mental health first aid and strategies to promote responsible gambling.

“These aren’t just procedures – they’re lifelines. We’re creating systems where players can feel supported, not judged,” Camins-Wieneke said.

Beyond regulation: A broader social mission

While compliance with industry regulation remains essential, DigiPlus asserts that its efforts will go further. Through BingoPlus Foundation, PHP150 million ($2.7 million) has been allocated in 2025 for programmes under four focus areas: Technology Education, Accessible Healthcare, Community Resilience, and Responsible Digitalisation.

“Beyond offering entertainment, we are deeply committed to delivering gaming experiences that are not only fun but also responsible,” Tanco asserted.

Expansion and partnerships

Plans for the rest of the year include launching digital learning modules, expanding collaborations with local government units and educational institutions, and conducting more community dialogues. Tengco echoed the collaborative spirit behind these efforts. “Gaming is meant to entertain, but it must always come with safeguards to protect players. Together, we aim to elevate the industry by prioritising player welfare,” he said.

As DigiPlus extends its reach, recently securing a licence to operate in Brazil, the company said its leadership in responsible gaming remains at the centre of its expansion strategy. The company operates platforms including BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone in the Philippines.

“As we play, we can protect. As we win, we can uplift. And as we grow, we can multiply the good – together,” Camins-Wieneke concluded.
