Fr. Raymond Portellis story is not one of distant charity, but of daily presence and quiet courage. Featured in of SiGMA Magazine, which was released at BiS SiGMA South Americas 2025 in S?o Paulo, last April. His journey offers a rare look at what it means to serve, heal, and hope in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. The magazine feature explores how Fr. Portelli, SiGMA Foundation, and EGT Digital are working hand-in-hand to bring healthcare to those who have long gone without.
For over three decades, Fr. Portelli has called Iquitos home. His days blur together: morning rounds in the hospital, afternoons spent listening to villagers stories, nights on call for emergencies that rarely wait for sunrise. I always felt my vocation to become a medical doctor, but when God called me to the priesthood, I followed. Yet, the calling to heal never left me, so I pursued both, he shares. He studied medicine by night, balancing textbooks with parish duties, driven by a belief that faith is lived out in action, not just words.
What began as a humble 16-bed clinic has grown into a hospital that now stands as a beacon for thousands. The need, however, keeps growing. Thanks to a 80,000 contribution from the SiGMA Foundation, with EGT Digitals partnership, four new medical rooms and a patient recovery garden are taking shape, each brick a testament to the power of shared purpose. Every brick laid is a step closer to giving these communities a fair chance at life, Fr. Portelli says, gratitude and resolve in his voice.
EGT Digitals involvement is more than a line in a CSR report. Their team has walked the dusty roads of Iquitos, spoken with families, and seen up close what access to care means. True success is not just about business growth, it is about making a meaningful impact, their spokesperson reflects. Their hands-on support is a reminder that real change is built on relationships, not transactions.
Fr. Portellis work is filled with moments that dont make headlines: a safe delivery in the middle of the night with only prayer and bare hands, a childs fever broken, a familys relief. Faith comes down to helping others. The rest is just words, he says. He believes social responsibility is a shared mission, urging more companies to step forward: One company alone cannot change the world, but together, we can make a difference.
