The US Travel Association has appointed William “Bill” Hornbuckle, President and CEO of MGM Resorts International, as its new National Chair. Hornbuckle steps into the role following Chris Nassetta, CEO of Hilton, whose term as chair recently ended. Hornbuckle will serve a two-year term, guiding the association’s efforts to increase travel to and within the US.
As National Chair, Hornbuckle will work closely with Geoff Freeman, the association’s President and CEO, and the executive leadership team. His role includes shaping industry priorities and ensuring the US travel sector capitalises on upcoming opportunities.
Hornbuckle, a veteran in gaming, hospitality, and tourism, brings extensive experience to the role. He previously served as chair of the US Department of Commerce’s Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, giving him deep insight into key industry issues and policy-making.
Commenting on his appointment, he was honoured to join the association at such a pivotal moment.
“We are entering a period of once-in-a-lifetime events and opportunities unlike anything our country has seen in recent years. I’m proud to join this storied organisation and look forward to helping the industry and the country succeed,” said Hornbuckle.
He emphasised that the US remains a global leader in travel and hospitality, and the association must maintain this momentum.
Geoff Freeman welcomed Hornbuckle’s appointment, highlighting his strong leadership background and expertise in tourism, travel, and hospitality.
“Bill’s prior leadership of the US Department of Commerce’s Travel and Tourism Advisory Board provides him a unique understanding of key issues and the levers that need to be pulled to achieve success in Washington,” said Freeman.
He also thanked outgoing chair Chris Nassetta for his contributions, noting that his leadership had helped transform the US Travel Association into a focused and sophisticated trade organisation.
Washington, DC-based US Travel Association plays a prominent role in developing policy and strategy that fosters economic growth through tourism and travel. The association promotes policies in favor of visa facilitation, infrastructure, and marketing for drawing international visitors.
