A journey of purpose in the heart of Peru?

Often when it comes to corporate responsibility, initiatives are reduced to checkboxes without true community engagement. SiGMA Foundations Peru Project tells a different story.

Rooted in a commitment to lasting impact, it brought together individuals and organisations united by a shared purpose of delivering healthcare to some of Perus most vulnerable communities. This journey became a powerful testament to what is possible when philanthropy is personal, immersive and driven by action.

The Peru Project is a philanthropic initiative led by the SiGMA Foundation aimed at expanding healthcare access in Northern Peru. Centered around the construction of a new hospital wing in Iquitos, the project combines fundraising, corporate partnership and hands-on work to support impoverished Amazonian communities.

Peru project vision

The SiGMA Foundation’s Peru Project culminated in the inauguration of the expanded Algo Bello Para Dios Hospital in Iquitos this April. This marked the completion of a major philanthropic initiative aimed at improving healthcare access for underserved communities in the Amazon region. The hospital, a vital lifeline for these communities, now includes a new wing that allows it to serve more people from some of the most impoverished and remote river areas in Northern Peru, places where healthcare is scarce, but the need is profound.

The team ventured beyond city limits, deep into the heart of the Amazonian communities, where they witnessed first hand the resilience and humanity of the people living there. These visits offered perspective and solidified the significance of the work being done.

In these villages, medical care is life changing. No one is more aware of this fact than Fr. Raymond Portelli, a Gozitan missionary priest and doctor who has been serving communities in Iquitos Peru. He has witnessed first-hand the increased number of patients needing treatment, and the urgency of hospital expansion becoming undeniable. In an article for SiGMA Magazine detailing the Foundations efforts in Peru, he expressed gratitude, Thanks to SiGMA Foundation, we are now building infrastructure needed to treat more people, Fr. Portelli emphasised. Every brick laid is a step closer to giving these communities a fair chance at life, he said.

Through this hands-on approach, the Foundations work continues to bridge the gap between corporate philanthropy and long lasting change. Take a look at issue 32 of SiGMA Magazine for greater insight into this .

EGT partnership

This project was further strengthened by the active involvement of EGT Digital, a key partner whose contribution went far beyond financial support. Their Chief Commercial Officer, Ms. Elizabeth Carrion, personally joined the expedition. Her humility and eagerness to connect with the locals left a lasting impression.

Rather than remaining a guest, Elizabeth immersed herself into the culture, becoming a vital part of the SiGMA Foundation team and embracing the mission as her own. Her presence reflected the growing movement of corporate stakeholders stepping into a more human, more accountable role within the philanthropic space.

The journey then took the team to Cusco, a city steeped in ancient history and high altitude terrain. For six months prior, the group had raised essential funds for the hospital project while training for the physically demanding challenge of the four day Inca Trail. Tackling steep climbs and rugged paths, they pushed their limits. The trek was a reflection of the emotional and communal investment made by every person involved, those who walked the trail, those who donated and those who opened their homes in the communities they served.

What unfolded across Peru was a shared experience, a blend of giving, cultural exchange, endurance and emotional connection. It proved that philanthropy is not simply about funding projects but about the people behind the work, the communities impacted and the bonds formed along the way. The Peru Project and Adventure Expedition reminded everyone involved that meaningful change happens when compassion leads, when corporations step in and when we remember that behind every act of giving is the potential to change lives, both theirs and our own.

With the growing number of gaming companies eager to engage in meaningful CSR, the SiGMA Foundation leads the way, bridging the gap between business and humanitarian impact. Whether through fundraising events, education programs or skills training, it is building a lasting legacy of transformation one step at a time.

SiGMA Foundations continued mission

The Peru Project and Adventure Expedition stands as a powerful example of the SiGMA Foundations mission in action, by empowering communities through sustainable healthcare access and demonstrating how meaningful impact begins with hands-on collaboration. Founded on the belief that the global business community can and should play a part in shaping a fairer world, the SiGMA Foundation harnesses the power of industry partnerships to make a real world impact. Through a blend of fundraising and boots-on-the-ground service, the Foundation has consistently supported initiatives in health, education and infrastructure in underserved regions.
