Sant is expected to leave the Gambling Control Authority but will continue in that role until February 2022, where he will not perform any regulatory, inspection or enforcement duties and will not participate in any internal committees.

Mr. Sant has a long and illustrious career at MGA, joining the company as an intern in September 2014 and working his way up the ranks, and finally becoming General Counsel and Senior General Counsel before finally becoming General Counsel in February this year.

Dr Sant was also featured in two panels on regulatory compliance in iGaming in Malta at SiGMA’s Malta Week 2021.

During his more than seven years with the Authority, Yanica has supported the regulator’s efforts to eradicate black market gambling and ensure a safer environment for players.

“MGA would like to thank Yanica for her excellent work over the past seven and a half years,” the Gambling Authority said. She then introduced her contributions to the industry, citing “her valuable contributions to projects at all levels of the organization’s hierarchy and at the highest levels at the time, including the drafting of the regulatory framework, which was published in 2018.”

In conclusion, MGA said, “I am confident that she will continue to demonstrate the values that MGA proudly upholds and hope that her new endeavor will be successful.”

This has also occurred during periods of heightened regulatory pressure, including a crackdown on non-compliant businesses and a series of reforms to the authorities’ general regulatory framework. An example of this is the authorities adding suppliers to their existing rules on reporting suspicious bets.

At this year’s SiGMA, Yanica Sant discussed the future of gaming regulation in Malta in a panel titled ‘Malta 2022 and Beyond’ and another panel where Sant spoke about the challenges of data protection in the online gaming sector.
