How to Bet on Kabaddi

Kabaddi was once a niche contact sport but now rivals cricket and football as one of the most popular Indian sports fans can bet on. With its popularity, sports fans now have a massive opportunity to place bets on their favorite teams, players, and competitive leagues. In this article, we’ll discuss the betting options available for Kabaddi, its rules and gameplay, and most importantly, what you need to know before making your bets.

Kabaddi Rules

If you want to bet smart on Kabaddi, you need to know and understand the rules of the game. Kabaddi operates around strict rules involving timing, player count, turns, scoring, and a few other nitty gritty things that make the game what it is. The better you understand how it works, the easier it is to spot value and pick your moments.

If this is your first time betting on kabaddi, here’s what you need to know:

  • There are two teams consisting of 12 players. At any given point during the match, only seven defenders can be on the field. From the offensive team, only one player can be active.
  • The aim of the game is for the raider to successfully tag any defender while chanting the word “Kabaddi” in one breath and returning to their half of the court.
  • The raid fails if the player stops the chant, takes a breath, or is held back by the opposing team.
  • The defending team scores a point by tackling the raider, while the attacking team earns points for each defender tagged and for crossing the bonus line.
  • The tag can handicap each of the seven players from the defense, but for every raiding player tackled and restrained, one player gets revived.
  • The team that scores the most points is declared the match winner.
  • Matches usually last 40 minutes, split into two 20-minute halves with a 5-minute break. In the PKL playoffs, if the scores are tied, extra time is played (two 3-minute halves). If still tied, a Golden Raid decides the winner.

Penalties in Kabaddi

Interestingly, there are several ways a team can concede penalties during a Kabaddi match. These include events such as bystander players from the raiding team giving tips to the raider, elimination due to injury, and more:

  • The raider begins the chant after crossing the line.
  • The raider chants something other than “Kabaddi.”
  • Raiders change the order of participation from what was pre-declared.
  • Any defender or raider crosses the line before their turn—it results in a point for the opposing team.
  • The raiding team shouts advice to the active raider.

In fact, penalties are sometimes included in prop betting markets. On some platforms/sports betting sites in India, you can find markets offering odds on the number of penalty points a team might concede. Understanding how and when penalties happen gives bettors an edge when placing these types of strategic bets.

Betting Markets for Kabaddi

Although kabaddi is well-known in India, the betting market for Kabaddi casts a much wider net. Thanks to its fast-paced nature, it spread all over the world with kabaddi betting sites leading the way. With unique markets like top raider and top tackles, Kabaddi offers a wide range of choices for both pre-match and live betting, including:

Top Raider

This is one of the most common bets in Kabaddi, where the goal is to determine who is going to be the prime scorer in the attacking team. 바카라ers like Pardeep Narwal, Pawan Sehrawat, and Naveen Kumar are often first picks for these Kabaddi bets.

Top Tackles

These are defender-centric bets, where punters try to determine who will be the most active tackler during the game. A top tackle bet is focused on individual players as well, and the likes of Sandeep Dhull and Surjeet Singh are more prominent names in this entry.

Double Points

The double point bet in Kabaddi markets focuses on scenarios where a player, or a team, scores two or more points within a single round. These bets are valid for Super Raids (3+ points within a raid), and Super Tackles (3 or less defenders tackling a raider).

Total Over/Under

This is a simple line bet on the total number of points in the match. Sportsbooks will offer a line (for example, 75.5), and you choose whether the combined score will be over or under that number.

Winner/Loser + Total Score

A popular combo bet in the Kabaddi betting markets, this bet looks at the outcome of a match between two teams, and the combined points scored by them. It’s a rather difficult bet, since getting the points down to the exact number is no easy task, but most bookmakers offer the option to bet on a score range as well.

Even/Odd Score

A rather simple type of bet, where the goal is to predict whether the score is going to be even or odd, there are some interesting wagers for bettors within the market. For instance, you could bet on whether a player is going to score even/odd points at the end of the match, or at half-time.

Asian Handicap

This is essentially a form of spread betting in case one team has a significant advantage over the other. To help reduce the inflation in odds, a handicap of certain points (positive or negative, depending on the team’s status) is applied in the betting markets.

Asian Total

Another form of spread betting that uses handicaps to even out the odds, Asian Total bets are essentially Over/Under bets on the total score in a match. Through split odds, where the stake is split and wagered on a defined range of bets (i.e. an Over bet on 75.0 – 76.5), punters can get full wins, partial wins/losses, or full losses.

Prominent Kabaddi Events in India to Bet on

There are several popular Kabaddi tournaments, both Indian and international, which attract a wide range of betting enthusiasts. In India, the most popular is the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), which began in 2014. Then comes the Kabaddi World Cup, which is backed by the International Kabaddi Federation and includes the participation of teams from Indian, Bangladesh, South Korea, Iran, and more. Here’s a list of Kabaddi leagues popular in India:

  • National Kabaddi Championship
  • Asian Games
  • Kabaddi Masters
  • Super Kabaddi League
  • Junior World Kabaddi Championship

Legendary Kabaddi Matchups That Shaped the Game

Kabaddi’s long history also shaped some of the most memorable matches among kabaddi fans. We’ll point out a few that got the viewers on their feet, so you’ll get an idea when it’s time to join the best betting sites in India and place your bets.

India vs Iran: The New-Age Power Struggle

Iran has recently come out as a serious threat to India’s long-held supremacy. One such case was the 2018 Asian Games final when Iran defeated India to win the gold. That moment marked a power shift in international kabaddi as it was the first time India failed to win kabaddi gold at the Asian Games. Keep your eye on any future match ups between the two power houses—it’s the right time for tactical and technical bets.

Bengaluru Bulls vs Dabang Delhi: Rivalry of the Raiders

If you’re looking for high-scoring affairs, then keep up with these two teams who are known for some of the most explosive PKL matches in recent years. Such rivaliers between teams are important, especially because of star players like Pawan Sehrawat and Naveen Kumar.

Patna Pirates vs U Mamba: Pro Kabaddi League

A key moment in kabaddi history came in PKL Season 3 when Patna Pirates, led by top raider Pardeep Narwal, came clashing down on the dominant U Mumba. This tightly contested final marked the start of the Patna Pirates’ dynasty and showed how far individuals can take a team. Such instances can bring the odds up quite a bit even against proved solid teams like U Mumba.

Now You’re in the (Kabaddi) Game

A repeated rookie mistake is to let the passion for the teams or players drive the wagers that you make. Experienced bettors know better than chasing odds or making blind wagers, and their strategy almost always focuses on informed decision making.

Whether you’re basing your bets on the past performances of raiders or tacklers, using Asian handicap bets for a more hedged outcome, or looking for simple bets on match winners, research over leaving it up to a random possibility will always help you along your Kabaddi betting journey.
