Juan Carlos Ortiz Diaz, Director of 247 Apuestas M¨¦xico, Unik Marketing, talks to us about the world of gambling in Latin America, especially in Mexico. How did 247 Apuestas M¨¦xico take off? What do you wish you had known at first?

We wanted a set of affiliate sites for Spanish speakers in the Americas – that is, in Canada, the United States and all Latin American countries. At first, I wish I had known more sites that offer payment methods that work all over Latin America.

What sets you apart from other affiliates?

We speak Latin America-specific Spanish and our entire team is located in Latin America. We all come from Mexico. We know this continent, and the sports that people love here. We are part of this culture.

What makes your traffic and sites unique?

Our sites are in Spanish and our work is focused on local sports and personalities.

What is your biggest challenge today?

Grow the site organically with Google.

Which markets do you focus on? Do you see potential in emerging markets?

Since our team is Mexican, we are focused on Mexico. Our target: Spanish speakers from all over the Americas, with a number of unique locations to cover all jurisdictions.

What is the place of iGaming in Latin America?

This is very new. It’s just getting started, but the potential is huge: the populations are considerable, and they’re doing more and more things online.

What about Mexican legislation regarding online gambling? How does this affect affiliates?

You need to have a partnership with a local land-based ë°”ì¹´ë¼ in order to have a legal online offer. The legislation does not have too much impact on members at this stage.

Are there any specific limitations or requirements placed on online gambling operators and/or affiliates in Mexico?

In order for the payment to work with Mexican currency, you must partner with a local land-based 바카ë¼, and you must hold a Mexican license.

Which niches work best for your affiliate marketing, and which ones are the most profitable?

Organic SEO It’s a long time, but it pays off.

What are the essential qualities and skills for an affiliated team/company?

You need to be familiar with how SEO works. You need to partner with the best operators, those who really see you as a partner and want to work with you for the long term.

How does technology play a role in your daily life?

Technology plays an important role, from SEO to site hosting, including security…

What does it take for an affiliate business to thrive?

You need to work with trusted partners, who have a product that is suitable for the jurisdictions in which you are promoting. It is necessary to have local knowledge.

What are your predictions for the future of the sector, especially in Latin America?

Everyone says it: Latin America is the new rising zone when it comes to online betting. It’s a market that will grow, but because there are a number of different countries, some have special requirements.

How do you choose your operators and how do you manage relationships with multiple operators?

We choose operators who offer a local product and who have local payment methods. It is essential that these operators are trusted partners.

Have you ever been to a SiGMA event? SiGMA Europe, Africa, Asia or the Americas ¨C which of these four trade shows are you likely to make a place for in your calendar in 2021, COVID-19 permitting?

Yes, I have been to SiGMA Europe and, if COVID-19 allows, I would also like to attend SiGMA America.

Tell us a little about yourself ¨C after all, business is done with people, not just companies! What are your favorite hobbies, book, or quote? Do you play with each other?

Well, after a long day of work and Skype meetings, I love watching my favorite football team, CBTis 232, practice. CBtis 232 is a fourth-division professional football team, with players between the ages of 14 and 16. We (247apuestas Mexico) are the sponsors of this team. The dream of these children is to play in the first division in Mexico one day and we believe in them. I also like to ride horses when possible.
