Vasylyna Shyshova and Nikita Novikovskyi of the Twitch channel Vasyslot talk about their business model and followers, their relationship with subscribers, and how to position themselves in such a competitive ecosystem. Below, we tell you their story.
Nikita: I started as a sales manager, then as a blogger manager and as an affiliate manager on the brand side. I’ve been in gaming since 2017, in gamification since 2019. I have loved computer games and sports since childhood; I find the game very interesting.
Vasya: Nikita pressured me to be a streamer, since before that I streamed online games. This time, the offer was to try out a ë°”ì¹´ë¼ stream, and this became my passion. To be honest, I didn’t quite understand monetization in affiliate marketing, but Nikita brought me up to speed and I took a liking to it.
We build the relationship with subscribers so that each format suits them. We share with them our feelings and events before and after the streams. That’s why, even though the stream is only an hour long, they’re happy to be with us, for which we’re very grateful. On average, streaming lasts 3 hours, which, in our opinion, is currently the optimal time. We come to this organically, because it’s neither long nor short.
We are now broadcasting in Russian. Our channel’s audience is split approximately 50/50 by GEOs, UA, and UK. We plan to expand to other GEOS, and for this we have created the Vasilinaplay channel, where we have a couple of streams and about 100 subscribers. These are test streams in English; there are plans to develop them.
We start with our native GEO. In the future, we will rely on the most popular GEOs that understand English and are interesting for ë°”ì¹´ë¼ operators.
No, we don’t think so. In our opinion, these are completely different sources. Maybe streams take some of the audience away from SEO traffic, but it’s too small a part to talk about SEO source disturbance.
Streaming requires a powerful computer and preferably 3 monitors, as you need to be as comfortable as possible. There are different software solutions; to begin with, we chose OBS, which is currently the best solution for us. We know that there are other solutions on the market and we will probably try them and choose the most suitable one for us.
This model is truly unique. Until recently, there was a lot of M&A activity and smaller affiliates with well-ranking websites were bought by the bigger fish. Nowadays, however, it seems much easier to capture traffic and deliver good results on Twitch than trying to build a website with good SEO rankings.
For a brand, it’s all about different sources of traffic. You can’t reject either of them, you have to try both. SEO requires more cash investments at first. But again, it depends on the goals and the path you choose. I also do SEO, and I can say that the mechanics are fundamentally different. The approaches are completely different, different type of traffic, user behavior and growth strategies. For some, the development of sites is more suitable, others prefer flows and find their own keys that help them grow. As for me, I don’t see any competition between the two sources. What I can highlight is that SEO has more risk. For example, local licenses, regulations that may restrict certain GEOs, and the partner pool. In Corrientes, I think there are fewer risks in this case.
I, Nikita, attended SiGMA Malta in 2019. We went to Amsterdam together for the iGathering, for Vasylyna it’s a new experience. We went to SiGMA Malta 2021 and this was Vasylylya’s first visit to SiGMA.
Nikita: On top of that, I like sports. I play hockey and American football. I also really like snowboarding, I’m addicted. I play guitar and I’m trying to play drums. In addition, I constantly watch streams on Vasyslot’s Twitch channel.
Vasya: In addition to streaming, I work as a model and as a personal and fashion stylist. One of my main hobbies is Latin dance. Also, when time permits, I play computer and cross-stitch. Favorite quote: Always go towards your goal and never look back.
