BetMGM and PointsBet have been fined $78,000 by the (AGCO) for alleged advertising and incentive violations.
The fines were imposed in response to suspicions of violation of the Internet Gambling Registry Rules, which deal with advertising and incentives.
Following the recent change in regulations in Canada, a large number of companies took to the market to offer citizens a range of gambling possibilities.
The AGCO has fined BetMGM $48,000 for allegedly breaching rules 2.04 and 2.05 of the Internet Gaming Rules and also PointsBet $30,000 for breaching rule 2.05.
Companies are prohibited from selling “incentives, bonuses and credits for gambling” unless they do so on their website after the player has given “active” consent, according to rule 2.04.
The AGCO detailed the specific violations of these rules, alleging that BetMGM Canada announced a “$250,000 Launch Party,” which included a sweepstakes offering a $100,000 바카라 bonus to the winner.
The so-called Bellagio promotion was published with the promise of a $10 바카라 bonus in exchange for a $25 bet, which was first tweeted on April 4 and then repeated on April 6, 7 and 8. On April 8, the operator also promoted a “Jimi Hendrix Free Spins Friday” on Twitter, with a chance to win 100 free spins.
Scott Vanderwel, CEO of PointsBet Canada, said in a statement: “On behalf of PointsBet Canada, I personally apologize for the error we made in interpreting the rules set by the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) that led to this outcome.”
Ontario is one of the few places in the world where the public promotion of bonuses and other gambling incentives is prohibited.
